About the Project
In the late ‘60s, Dakila emerged from the cultural melting pot of San Francisco’s Mission District, performing in the same music scene that gave rise to Santana and Malo. When Dakila signed a record deal with Columbia/Epic, they became the first major label American band to embrace and celebrate a Filipino-American cultural identity through their music.
After disbanding in the mid-1970s, their sole album became an obscure cult favorite among fans of Latin and psychedelic rock of the era. In the 2010s, members of the original group reunited to perform again throughout California.
This is the first time their story, a rock and roll journey of immigration, community and social consciousness, has been told in a documentary.
